Emilia spp. (Red Pualele)

PLANT NAME: Emilia spp.

COMMON NAMES: Red pualele [Hawai'i]; yang ti cao (goatsfoot grass), yi dian hong, yang ti gen [China]; floras paintbrush, cupid's shaving brush, lilac tasselflower [English]; banasurya [India]; emilienkraut [German].

FAMILY: Asteraceae.

TOXICITY: Possibly some long term chronic toxicity.

CAUTIONS AND CONTRAINDICATIONS: May contain pyrrolizidine alkaloids. Not in pregnancy. Not in liver disease.

ENERGETIC CAUTIONS: Caution in deficient spleen stomach ~.

RESEARCH:
• Water and alcohol extracts of Emilia sonchifolia leaf are anti-inflammatory in rats [Muko 2000].
• Alcohol extract of Emilia sonchifolia is cytotoxic in vitro to Daltons lymphoma, Ehrlich ascites carcinoma and mouse lung fibroblast cells, but not in vitro to human lymphocytes [Shylesh 2000].
