Common names: Hsieh-hsia Chu (Pearl under the leaf) [China] Chanca piedra (Stone breaker) [Amazonia] Quebra pedra [Brazil] Pitirishi, Budhatri [India] Hurricane weed [Bahamas]

Properties: Cool

Western functions: Anodyne, antibacterial, liver protective, anti-inflammatory, antispasmodic, antiviral, carminative, choleretic, diuretic, improves digestion, emmemagogue, laxative, vermifiuge

Energetic functions: Clears the liver, benefits the vision, expels parasites, drains damp.

Indications:
1. Gallstones [Amazonia, Peru]
2. Urinary tract infection, nephretic edema, urinary stones [China, Amazonia, Peru, Brazil]
3. Enteritis and diarrhea, infantile marasmus, swollen and inflamed rectum. [China, Bahamas, India, Malaya, Marianas]
4. Prostatitis, gonorrhea, syphillis, vaginitis, [Brazil, Java, Malaya, Marianas]
5. Hepatitis, jaundice [China, India, Brazil, Peru]
6. Asthma, bronchitis, cough, tuberculosis [India, Java]
7. Fever, influenza [Bahamas, Haiti, Brazil]
8. Digestive pain [Bahamas, Java, Haiti]
9. Joint pain [Brazil]
10. Conjunctivitis [China]
11. Anemia [India]

Part used: Whole plant

Habitat: Indiginous to India, China, Bahamas

Dosage: 5 qian - 1 liang

Research: Smooth muscle relaxation to the urinary and biliary tract.
Lowers blood glucose in diabetic patients.
Antiviral in hepatitis (mixed results).
Inhibits HIV-1 reproduction

Notes: The genus Phyllanthus includes over 600 species.
No reported toxicity.
A muscle relaxant for the urinary system.
