Youngia japonica Youngia japonica (Hawksbeard) OTHER NAMES: Chondrilla lyrata, Crepis japonica, Prenanthes japonica, Prenanthes lyrata, Prenanthes multiflora, Youngia lyrata, Youngia thunbergiana. COMMON NAMES: Oriental hawksbeard, asiatic hawksbeard [English]. NOMENCLATURE: Youngia is named after two British writers: Edward Young (1683-1765) and Thomas Young (1779-1829). FAMILY: Asteraceae (daisy family). CATEGORY: Clear heat and poison ~. PROPERTIES: Sweet, bitter, cool. PLANT PART USED: Whole plant. ENERGETIC CAUTIONS: Caution with cold deficient Spleen / Stomach ~. PREPARATION OF MEDICINE: Decocted. Mashed for topical use. DOSAGE: 10 - 30 grams in combination, 30 - 60 grams if used alone. WESTERN FUNCTIONS REPORTED: Antidote; anti-inflammatory; antitussive; diuretic; febrifuge. RANGE: Native to Southeast Asia.
